Things You Can Do To Help Yourself

If you’ve recognised that your behaviour has caused harm in your relationships, then you have already taken the first step towards change.

Here are some things you can do to begin adjusting your behaviour on your journey. Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength, and it’s never too late to change.

TALK TO A MATE

A problem shared is a problem halved. Chat to your mates about how you’ve been feeling. You can also connect with support groups specifically designed for people on a similar journey to you.

Sharing your experiences and thoughts with others can help you to feel heard and understood, as well as boosting accountability and motivation.

We offer group support sessions, as well as one-to-one sessions, as part of our support programmes.

CONSIDER EMOTIONAL MANAGEMENT

Learn and practice effective emotional management techniques. Emotional management can help to give you healthier ways of expressing and coping with your emotions without resorting to abusive behaviour. Our specialist support can help you with this.

DO THINGS YOU ENJOY

Activities such as exercise, hobbies and socialising can help reduce stress levels, and will bring a more positive mindset. Filling your cup with positive experiences can make it easier to deal with triggers, negative emotions and stressful situations.

CHECK IN WITH YOURSELF

Every now and then, reflect on how you’ve been doing, note any challenges you’ve had, any negative situations you’ve been in, and how you dealt with them. Think about what triggered you during these situations and whether you can avoid these in the future.
